This weekend we celebrate the feast day of Blessed Michael McGivney. He is the founder of the Knights of Columbus. Here at St. Teresa we have a vibrant and active council; one of the oldest in fact! Our Delaney-St. Teresa Council proudly bears the number “57.” What started in Connecticut has spread throughout the entire world. There are now more than 1.7 million members and 14,000 councils. You can find Knights throughout the world and in every ministry: from soup kitchens to college campuses, from parishes to military bases. They spread the Gospel by living out their four key principles that form the basis of their order: charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. This wonderful fraternal service began with the work of Blessed Michael McGivney. So it is right that we spend this weekend learning about him and asking for his intercession.
I would be remiss if I did not take the time to draw attention to the good work of the Pawtucket Police Department. As many of you know youths broke into our convent. What I forgot to mention was the professionalism and helpfulness of the men and women in blue. So, I want to thank them and the entire department for their help.
Hopefully by the time this bulletin goes to print we will have a new school sign. Back in the winter a storm broke our school sign on Newport Avenue in half. Since that time, we have been trying to reach out to companies to install a replacement. This past Friday (hopefully!) the company Sir Speedy designed and installed our new sign. It matches our parish electronic sign, also on the parish.
Finally, sadly this is Seminarian Joseph’s last official weekend here at St. Teresa Parish. These past eight weeks have flown by. In that time he has served both here at St. Teresa and down the road at St. John Paul II. He has served Masses, funerals, baptisms, committals, anointings, and every other sacramental and liturgical act. He has attended parish events and visited our groups. He organized and led a fantastic Summer Bible Study and Sung Sunday Evening Prayer. We were indeed blessed that the bishop and seminary faculty entrusted Joseph to us for the summer (especially since Fr. Battey and I are new pastors). Please pray for him and for more vocations to the priesthood and religious life. If you would like to write to him his address in Rome is:
